Geek Chic

Whats up FOUR EYES??!! Yeah, I said it!  And you might not even feel offended by my childish name calling, because according to the Vision Council of America, 75% of the world's adults need, or are currently wearing some type of vision correction. So if you're reading this, the majority of you are doing so through contacts or glasses.

Many of you wear contact lenses to avoid wearing glasses, but contact lenses are only for cosmetic purposes... like makeup!  You wouldn't be at home on the couch, chilling, watching television, rocking a full face of foundation, eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick would you? (Well maybe I would, but that's only on Thursdays due to my need to feel fancy at least once a week.)  So you should treat your contacts the same way, and not wear them 24/7.  Give your eyes a break!  Check these specs on how you should wear your... SPECS!

Think of your glasses frames like your everyday bag or coat.  Its something that's necessary, is seen by others quite frequently, and should look good because face it -- YOU want to look good.

If you have a SQUARE shaped face-- meaning your face is proportionate, featuring a strong jawline and prominate forehead -- your best bet is to try square, butterfly, or oval shaped frames with temples that connect at the top or middle of the frame.

If you have an OVAL shaped face -- meaning your chin is slightly more narrow than your forehead, and you have high cheekbones -- your frame shapes are square, rectangle, and other fun geometric shapes that will add angles to the soft curves of your face.  These types of  frames also work for you if your face is ROUND... Well proportioned with a rounded chin,  and very few angles.

People whose face is longer than it is wide, or OBLONG, should wear tall frames to give the illusion of a shorter face.  Broad glasses with an accented top rim or decortive temples will add more width.

People with a DIAMOND shape face are narrow at the eye and jawline, with dramatic cheekbones.  You lucky dogs get to wear cat eye frames which are upwept to emphasize your prominate cheek bones.  Rimless frames give you that same effect.  If that's too much jazz, you can also wear oval shaped frames.

If you have a broad forehead, wide cheekbones, and a small chin, you have a HEART shaped face.  Awwww!!!  You need bottom-heavy frames that add width to your lower face.  You can achieve this look by selecting frames with low set temples to draw attention downward.  Narrow, round frames will also take the eye away from that eight-head you have going on up there... Just kidding! <3 YA!

And last but not least are people with TRIANGLE shaped faces.  This means that you have a narrow forehead and an eye line that widens at the cheeks and the chin.  You need top-heavy styles that balance the width of the jaw, frames with bottoms that angle inward, or rimless frames that accentuate the upper portion of your face.

Now that you've got the specs, go to the nearest mirror, figure out what type of face you have, and make your next trip to the optometrist FASHIONABLE!!!

Pop Your Collar

The ultimate sign of swag is the swagtastic collar pop.  This season, the ultimate sign of chic is the detatchable collar.  This is definitely one of my favorite accessories right now!  Don't know what I'm talking about?  Check out the trend NOW!

Here's what I'm talking about.  Instead of wearing a neckalce with this deep V neck blouse, this dapper dame chose a detatchable collar  to add a bit of unexpected, trendy sophistication to her look.

A more obvious way to show off your detatchable collar is by wearing it with a scoop neck top or dress.

Sorry.  NOT like this. Like this...

Or you can rock your collar in a more conservative way like this...

Detachable collars become more appealing when you rev up the color, texture, and embellishments.  I'm really digging these collars...

Based on these pictures, you can see that options for these things are ENDLESS!  This simple accessory can add new life to drab dresses, fave frocks, simple shirts, boring blouses, trendy tops...
Need I continue with the annoying alliteration?

If the collars are too much for you, try the detachble collar in the form of a necklace like this one from ASOS...

How cute is that???  And it totally livened up this would-be plain top!

Some collar necklaces I totally recommend are...

Now that you got you new favorite necklace alternative...

GO FORTH AND BE TRENDY!!!

Head of the Class

Brandi P., a mother, school teacher, and lover of all things fun asked me to create a new look for her.  Being the fashionista that I am, as well as a childhood friend, I obliged.  I created three looks for her which are posted in the blogs below.  Watch out world, because

HERE COMES BRANDI!

Beach Chic

Brandi likes to go to the beach, so I put this together for her to wear to a nice stroll on the boardwalk.  A floral anorak to ward off the ocean breeze, a sun dress, comfy espadrilles, sunglasses, and a large canvas bag just in case she wants to pack a picnic.

Beezy in the City

Brandi likes to travel, so if she were going out of town, she'd definitely be going to see the sights so I put this look together for her.

Spring Chick

Still caking on that eyeshadow?  Arching your eyebrows pencil thin? Lining your lips with black liner, then filling it in with Carmex? COLOR CONTACTS????
Set your clocks FASHION FORWARD!  Its time to talk

SPRING BEAUTY 2012

When putting your look together  this season, keep these 3 tips in mind when it comes to beauty:

1) Less is More

Now is the time to let your natural beauty shine.  Clean, healthy skin is in; and you if you have it, WORK IT!  If you don't, dab on a little bit of concealer, a minimum coverage foundation, and finish off the look with a little bit of bronzer for a natural glow.  Pronounced eyebrows are a MUST to make this work.

Rochas

Pull hair away from the face to show off your your natural look.  The sleek pony is a great polished look, and totally MAJOR right now.  The undone bun is a fresh alternative to this refined look.  Neatly messy, yet still away from the face.

2) Say it with your Lips

No matter how tempting it may be to match your makeup with this season's blossoming florals, catchy color blocks, and native prints... DON'T!  Let your lip color do all the talking.

3) Smooth Nails

Giiiiirrrrllll STOP with those long, acrylic, SWV nails, and all those played out designs!  While nail designs are still acceptable, they have toned down a bit over the past few seasons.  Nails are kept at a length useful for typing and texting, and are less succeptable to host communicable diseases.   As far as nail colors are concerned, right now anything goes.  As long as the length is kept to a minimum, you can go as crazy as you want!

Now take these beauty tips and SPRING into the new season!  Give up being WHACK for Lent!
